Your Climbing Data Stays in the App

Boulder Log does not require an account. Boulders, attempts, sends, predictions, notes, photos, hold outlines, routesetter details, and preferences are stored locally on your device. The app does not automatically upload your climbing collection to Learnalist or synchronize it through a Learnalist account.

Photos you choose from your library or take with the camera are copied into the app for the features you request. Only add or share other people’s names, signatures, or photos when you have an appropriate reason to do so.

We do not include advertising or third-party analytics SDKs in Boulder Log, and we do not sell your personal data or use it for personalized advertising.

Optional Location and Maps

Location is optional. If you allow access, the app can attach coordinates to a boulder or use your current position to find nearby saved boulders. Logging an attempt does not collect a new location. You can change or remove a boulder’s saved location and disable location permission in iOS Settings.

When a map is displayed, the app requests map tiles from OpenStreetMap. These requests reveal technical information such as your IP address, the requested map area, and the app identifier to OpenStreetMap. Your climbing notes and attempts are not sent with these requests. OpenStreetMap handles requests under its privacy policy.

Sharing and Backups

You choose when to share or export data. A shared .boulder file contains boulder details and linked images; you can choose whether to include location and your climbing history. Review these choices before sharing. Someone receiving a file can retain, copy, edit, or pass it on. Learnalist cannot recall their copy.

“Export everything” creates a backup of your collection, linked images, climbing history, and included preferences. Purchase ownership and device permissions are not transferred in that backup. You choose where to save it using Files. A storage or messaging provider you select handles the file under its own terms and privacy policy; exporting does not upload it to Learnalist.

Restoring a backup replaces the app’s current collection after confirmation. Keep exported files somewhere you trust, particularly when they contain photos, notes, or precise locations.

Purchases

Optional in-app purchases and purchase restoration are handled by Apple. The app processes product and transaction information to recognize your purchase and stores its unlock state locally. We do not receive your payment-card details. Apple handles payment and Apple Account information under its privacy policy.

Support and Your Rights

If you contact us, we receive your email address, your message, and any files you choose to send. We use this information to answer your request and investigate the issue, based on our legitimate interest in providing support or, where applicable, performing our contract with you. We do not publish support communications without permission.

Support messages are stored as email. We retain them as reasonably needed to handle your request, maintain relevant support history, or meet legal obligations and establish or defend legal claims. We do not currently have a fixed deletion schedule for support correspondence.

You can edit, export, or delete your climbing records in the app. Deleting the app removes its local data; exported files, copies held by recipients, and device backups are separate. Your device’s backup settings and storage providers may retain copies under their own policies. Learnalist cannot recover your local collection for you.

For personal data we hold, you may have rights to access, correction, deletion, portability, restriction, or objection, depending on applicable law. Contact learnalist-privacy-policy@learnalist.net to make a request or ask a privacy question. You can also complain to Norway’s Datatilsynet or your local data-protection authority.

Websites and Policy Changes

This policy covers the Boulder Log app. Learnalist websites and other services are covered by our general privacy policy.

We may update this policy when the app’s data handling changes. We will update the effective date and provide appropriate additional notice for material changes.
