Usage notes
In Norwegian, konfirmasjon can refer to a church confirmation or a humanist coming-of-age ceremony. They have different meanings and programmes. Konfirmanten is the young person being celebrated. Check the invitation for the type of ceremony and its arrangements.
Deg addresses one person, so it fits a message to the young person. Dere addresses several people, such as the hosting family. The phrases do not prescribe gifts, clothing or traditions; ask your hosts about practical details.
References for the terminology and context: Church of Norway: confirmation. Human-Etisk Forbund: humanist confirmation. Bokmålsordboka: konfirmant.
Practise a conversation
Write a card with a greeting and a personal wish. Then play the guest: accept or decline an invitation and ask where the celebration will be. Finally, switch roles and thank someone for coming. Notice when the message uses deg and when it uses dere.
You can add the whole guide for ongoing learning; Learnalist introduces its cards gradually and brings them back for review. Use these examples to rehearse today's situation whenever you need them.
