Why is it spelled frightening?
Start with frighten and add -ing: frightening. Keep the e in frighten and do not double its final n. The two wrong options in this challenge drop that e or add another n.
Frightening can describe something that causes fear. “It was a frightening noise” is an example. The Oxford Learner’s Dictionary entry for frighten lists frightening as its -ing form.
